On Saturday, April 5, the Stevenson Patriots faced off against the Glenbard West Hilltoppers in a Varsity Volleyball game at home. In an exhilarating performance the Hilltoppers came on top beating the Patriots 15-25, 13-25.
After this loss, the Patriots are 3-4 at the halfway point in their season. Varsity coach Eric Goolish hopes that the team can start to improve their own skills as a team rather than worrying themselves with the opposition.
“At this stage in the year and with the challenges we are facing, focusing on ourselves is more meaningful than the opposition.” Goolish said.
Despite the loss, the Stevenson offense put up a good fight with setter Zolbayar Munkhbar ’26 and libero Ryan Dong ’25 getting 9 and 4 assists respectively. The defense, however, struggled throughout the match as Glenbard scored their 25 points relatively quickly in both sets.
“I thought that we had great teamwork and energy during the game,” Evan Headley ’27 said. “But we made a lot of receive errors that we can cleanup for next week.”
The match against Glenbard West is always an important one in the season according to Goolish. Prior to the game, the team watched previous match film from 2022 to prepare.
“We did watch film of our 2022 Stevenson team who played very similarly to how Glenbard West plays,” Goolish said. “This served as an artifact of program history, an example of what we are striving for, and a model of what to anticipate while facing the Hilltoppers.”
