On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the Stevenson Patriots faced off against the Wheeling Wildcats in the Sports Center. The Patriots made key deflections and dominated earning 71-30 a victory.
“I thought we did a good job on our offensive class,” said Will Benson, coach of the Varsity Boys Basketball team. “We got a bunch of deflections early, and I think our defense really, really set the tone.”
The Patriots defense was a major highlight in the first half, as they made key stops and limited their opponents opportunities. By forcing turnovers and securing rebounds, they created fast break opportunities that fueled their offense. In the second half, the transition from defense to the offensive was seamless, allowing the Patriots to take advantage of their momentum and push the game in their favor.
“We ended up with a decent amount [of points], but we thought that if we just played the way we could play defensively we could really give them some problems,” Benson said.
With a balance between defense and offense, the team was able to secure the victory against the Wheeling Wildcats. Atticus Richmond ’25 was the star player of the game, electrifying the crowd as he went for several dunks. Aiden Bardic ’25 controlled the ball and was able to set up great plays. Donovan Williams ’26 was able to land some three-pointers and make great assists.
The Patriots are currently 21-10 overall and 11-3 (1st) in conference so far.
