On Feb. 20, the Stevenson Patriots faced off against the Rolling Meadows Mustangs in an exhilarating Varsity Girls Basketball game. The final score saw the Mustangs come out on top with a 46-39 victory.
Both teams played with intensity and great effort throughout the whole game, showcasing their skills from start to finish. The game’s fast-paced first quarter saw both teams exchanging possessions, with lots of turnovers and steals. Stevenson had a few highlights that energized the crowd, including a smooth pass to Nisha Musunuri ’25 for an almost-dunk and later a solid three-pointer from Musunuri. Despite some great defensive plays, like Alexa Karcz’s ’26 effort to steal from Mustangs and Maloney’s strong blocks, the Patriots struggled to maintain possession against a tough defense.
As the second quarter began, Stevenson found some rhythm with Sydney Rosland ’25 making some early shots and continuing to push the ball down the court. However, the Mustangs’ defense remained relentless. Despite facing fouls and turnovers, Stevenson kept fighting, as Rosland and Musunuri showed strong performance with steals and passes. However the Mustangs still maintained their lead against Stevenson, making impressive shots and forcing the Patriots into mistakes. By the end of the half, the score was 23-12 Mustangs.
The third quarter brought some encouragement for the Patriots, with Norah Maloney ’25 making a big steal and Rosland continuing to score with free throws. But the Mustangs weren’t backing down, sinking three-pointers and playing tough defense. Rosland made some big plays but Mustangs consistently had the upper hand. As the quarter ended, the score was 36-25 Rolling Meadows.
In the last quarter, both teams fought hard, but Stevenson ultimately struggled to overcome the deficit. Musunuri’s steal and a big shot from Rosland attempted to close the gap, but Mustangs proved to be too much to handle.
While the Stevenson Patriots defense was solid, turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Mustangs to maintain their lead. The final score of this regional game was 39-46 Rolling Meadows. With this game, the Patriots lost the regionals, concluding their 2024-2025 season. As of this season, they are overall 20-12, in conference 11-3 ranked 3rd.
